Tri Flash Tips

Rod
A medium action downrigger rod can be used, because Tri Flash creates very little drag when it is reeled in.
Fishing Line

It is recommended that you use at least fifteen pound test fishing line when using your Tri Flash, as is the same with all other flashers or dodgers. A lighter leader connected between Tri Flash and lure may be used, depending on the type of fish sought. A good quality ballbearing swivel attached to spoons, stickbaits or cutbait rigs is recommended, as is in all fishing applications.

Leader Length

A two to six foot or longer leader length may be used. See figures 1,2,3 and 4 for details. You may want to experiment to see what the fish want. Here is the leader lenghts Team Tri Flash has found to work best.

Brown Trout - 72 inch leader using spoons connected to the center clip.

Lake Trout - 30 to 40 inch leader using Peanut rig, Spin-N-Glo or Flatfish connected to the center clip.

Coho Salmon - 60 inch leader using spoons connected to the center clip.

30 inch leader using squids or flies connected to one of the outside clips.

Adult Chinook Salmon - 53 inch leader using spoons, whole bait or cut bait rigs connected to one of the outside clips. 30 inch leader using squids or flies connected to one of the outside clips.

Setback
A five to thirty foot setback from the downrigger weight can be used. Again you may want to experiment to see what the fish want.

Boat Speed

Tri Flash works well at 1 - 3 + miles per hour

Lake trout: 1 - 1.5 miles per hour "usually the slower the better"

Brown trout: 2 - 2.5 miles per hour

Salmon All: 2.5 - 3+ miles per hour

Tri Flash can also be used with other fishing tackle that dives.

Tri Flash can also be connected directly to the downrigger weight as an attractor.
